Bentonite clay is popular and comes from naturally occurring volcanic ash.
Also known as Montmorillonite, this clay can be used externally for mud packs, skin care preparations and as a poultice.
After drying the clay is ground into a fine powder. When the powder is mixed with water it swells rapidly as it is very porous.
