Stinging Nettle ( Urtica Dioca) is covered in tiny hairs that cause a temporary burning sensation if touched.
Cooking and drying deactivated the formic acid that causes the stinging feeling.

Native to Europe, Asia and North America this plant is now found all over the world.

The leaves a roots have a long history of being used in traditional medicine. The Formic Acid is used to ease joint discomfort so this does have its uses.

Nettles contain so many beneficial components it is not possible to list them all. The Most significant are

  • Mineral Rich - Supporting hair, bones and teeth and this includes calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, potassium, copper and selenium

  • 1 Cup of Boiling Water
  • 1-3 tsp dry nettle leaf or this can be fresh.
  • Sweetener if desired . Use Honey or Maple Syrup
  • Place leaves in an infuser basket or put leaves directly into the pot/cup.
  • Boil the water and pour it over the leaves. Cover and allow to steep for
  • 10 to 15 mins.
  • Strain if applicable and its ready to drink. It will have cooled and can be used as an iced tea or drink it warm and not hot.

  • A Quick Nettle Hair Rinse.
  • One of the oldest recorded remedies for preventing hair loss.
  • High Sulfur & Silica strengthen the hair shaft.
  • Regular use promotes hair re growth and reduces hair loss.
  • Pour boiling water over a handful of leaves. Infuse for 10 minutes and let it cool.
  • After giving your hair a normal wash, rinse using the Nettle tea.
  • Add a sprig of Rosemary to the infusion and this will increase the shine and body
